Nestle to ‘hire’ 1000 robots to sell Nescafe in Japan

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Nestle to ‘hire’ 1000 robots to sell Nescafe in Japan.

Nestlé, the world’s largest food and drink conglomerate, has bought 20 humanoid robots to help sell coffee machines in its stores across Japan.

Nescafé will use the humanoid robot “Pepper” to sell Nescafé Dolce Gusto and Nescafé Gold Blend Barista coffee machines in home appliance stores.

Through voice and emotion recognition technology, the robot is able to analyze consumers’ feelings by reading their facial expressions and listening to their tone of voice.

The machine will even be able to hold a conversation with the customers!

“The dream to create an advanced consumer experience with Pepper is now coming true,” said Masayoshi Son, Chairman and CEO of SoftBank Corporation, producer of the robot. “We hope that by providing people the opportunity to interact with a robot whilst shopping, we can help create experiences of wonder and delight for consumers.”

Pepper was first unveiled in June of this year by SoftBank and has been working in the mobile carrier’s locations ever since.

He will make his Nestlé debut this December in around 20 home appliance stores, with the company planning to use the robot in around 1,000 stores in Japan, its biggest market, by the end of 2015.

Toshiba: “No demand for 3D TV”

Despite a concerted push by a number of companies at this year’s CES to promote the technology, Toshiba believes that consumers are not interested.

Instead, TV buyers are interested in what they’ve always been interested in: the best resolution. “We went from VHS to DVD and then from DVD to 720p to 1080p to Blu-ray and now 4K is the next big thing.”

“I think that 3D still does great in the theatres just not so in a home theatre. If people do buy the 3D TVs, we found that they just weren’t using it that much,” a company spokesperson told Trusted Reviews.

Toshiba claims that this is partly due to a lack of content and partly because wearing the glasses is uncomfortable.

As such, Toshiba says it has not seen a huge demand for 3D and “we do not see that trend extending its lifeline much further.”

Toshiba’s disappointing words come only weeks after the 2014 International CES where glasses-free 3D technology was really being pushed.

LG to sell OLED TVs next month

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents LG to sell OLED TVs next month.

LG Electronics has launched sales of its new television using a next-generation display that the company hopes will drive growth against giant rival Samsung.

The electronics giant began accepting pre-orders for the TV that features an organic light-emitting diode display, in the world’s first commercial sales of such TV sets.

OLED TVs don’t require separate backlights and thus are thinner, consume about 20 percent less power and offer a sharper picture than conventional flat-panel sets.

The LG OLED model, 55 inches wide but just 0.16 inches (four mm) thick, was crowned best gadget of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last year, trumping a similar-size Samsung set.

“We will launch the OLED TV in North America, Europe and elsewhere in Asia in the first quarter to secure a leading position in this next-generation TV market,” the company said in a statement.

The TV comes with a whopping price tag of 11 million won ($10,357), as manufacturers still struggle to cut the cost of mass-producing the delicate panels.

Samsung Electronics aims to start sales of its own OLED TVs later this year, although OLED displays are already used on its popular Galaxy S and Note smartphones.

Market researcher DisplaySearch estimated global sales of OLED TVs in 2013 would reach 50,000 units and increase sharply to more than 7.0 million units in 2016.

Oakley AirWave ski goggles with head-up data display

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Oakley AirWave ski goggles with head-up data display.

Oakley just debuted a new pair of tricked-out snow goggles that offer some unique features, such as Recon Instruments’ latest heads-up technology, allowing wearers to see maps, speed, temperature and playlists all while carving up the mountain.

All of this information is displayed in the lower righthand corner of the goggles, which is perceived by the wearer to be the size of a 14-inch/36-cm screen that is five feet/1.5 m away, so you won’t need to refocus the eyes, Oakley states.

Additionally, Oakley’s Airwave goggles feature GPS, Bluetooth and a host of other onboard sensors.

You can access a friend tracker to locate ski pals and preloaded maps of 600 ski resorts around the globe, as well as stream music wirelessly, make calls, or send texts with stock messages via a “glove-friendly” wrist remote control.

Available October 31, you can purchase the Airwave goggles for $599 via Oakley.com, Apple.com and select Apple stores in North America, Europe, and Japan.

By downloading a corresponding iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android app, you can operate the goggles via the wrist device.

Other ski goggle options include the Zeal iON, which feature antifog, high-density polarized lenses, like the Airwave, but with a built-in HD camera to capture the action.

You can capture both 1080p video and eight-megapixel photos with a 170-degree wide-angle lens. The camera automatically adjusts for light levels and has an infinity focus — all for a price of $399.

New Prada Phone by LG 3.0 for 2012

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents New Prada Phone by LG 3.0 for 2012.

LG and fashion label Prada are collaborating for the third time to release the first LG Prada smartphone, the Prada phone by LG 3.0.

The first LG Prada, also known as LG KE850, was the world’s first mobile phone to use a touchscreen display.

The teams behind the design and construction have offered a sneak peek into the handset that will be on offer next fall via an image released by the company.

Neither of the two concerned companies has revealed any information on the upcoming LG Prada phone.

Dr. Jong-seok Park, CEO of LG Eletronics Mobile Communications Company, said, “Our working relationship with PRADA is unique in its longevity and success, something no other phone company and luxury brand have been able to replicate.”

Designer labels attached to phones is not a novelty these days considering the Hugo Boss Samsung Galaxy Ace or the BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 devices.

The Everyday Leica

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents The Everyday Leica.

The newest addition to Leica’s camera lineup, the V-Lux 30, may not offer all the fit and finish of the venerable German manufacturer’s highly sought-after M9 Titanium. It does, however, make capturing professional-quality digital photos and video footage a cinch for the everyday photographer.

The successor to the V-Lux 20, this new point-and-shoot model increases magnification power from 12 times to 16 times optical zoom, and ups the effective megapixel count from 12.1 to 14.1. The V-Lux 30, which is equipped with a 3-inch touchscreen image display, also gives users the ability to capture photos in 3-D if so desired, as well as video in 1080i high definition (versus the 720p resolution of the V-Lux 20). Integrated with a GPS function that works in conjunction with such social networks and map services as Facebook and Google Maps, the camera is able to identify 1 million global points of interest when capturing photos on the go. The V-Lux 30 just began shipping for a price of $749. (www.leica-camera.com)

How to run your own hotel on Facebook

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents How to run your own hotel on Facebook.

International hotel chain Marriott has launched a new Facebook game this week which allows fans to run their own virtual hotel, in a bid to entertain bored internet users — and attract new staff for its hotels.

My Marriott Hotel, available on the Marriott fan page, is a virtual hotel which needs to be run in the same way as popular Facebook games such as FarmVille and Cityville, and the latest of a host of games which appeal to the hotel manager in all of us.

Gamers will progressively unlock different areas of their hotel, beginning in the kitchen where they can buy ingredients, hire chefs and kit out the area, as well as building the menu for themselves.

As with other Facebook games, gamers can earn points for happy customers and lose points for poor service, as well as being rewarded when their hotel earns a profit.

The game can be played in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Mandarin.

Marriott says that with online games now the second most popular activity on the web, it hopes My Marriott Hotel will boost interest in careers with the group and in hospitality in general.

It’s also likely to prove popular with hotel fans, although it faces considerable competition — the idea of living in or running a virtual hotel seems to be a popular one with Facebook users, with Playfish’s Hotel City among the most popular.

The best hotel games on Facebook

Hotel City – With a cute layout and some fun guests, Hotel City is one of the most popular hotel games on Facebook. It’s easy to learn and requires little time to play. 1.7 million monthly users.
