Sheraton Maco Hotel to be World’s Largest

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Sheraton Maco Hotel to be World’s Largest.

This fall, Sheraton will unveil the 3,863-room Sheraton Macao Hotel, which will be the largest Sheraton — and Starwood — hotel in the world.

Located on the Cotai Strip, the new hotel will boast three restaurants with poolside cafes, two outdoor swimming pools and 140,000 square feet of meeting space.

Sands Cotai Central also features a Conrad and Holiday Inn. The Conrad Macao features over 600 rooms and suites in a 39-floor tower, while the Holiday Inn Macao holds more than 1,200 rooms and suites.

All three hotels will be the largest in the world for their respective brands. Eventually the entire complex will offer close to 5,800 rooms and more than 20 dining options.

Sheraton is slated to open 12 new hotels across China in 2012, reaching a total of nearly 80 hotels there by 2015. Nearly 40 percent of all future Starwood hotels opening in China will fly the Sheraton flag.

The Sheraton brand’s rapid growth is also moving Starwood closer to its goal of opening its 100th hotel in China later this year.

Submarines - the ultimate toy for the super rich

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Submarines - the ultimate toy for the super rich.

When director James Cameron descended to the bottom of the Pacific on Monday, he not only shed light on the world’s deepest ocean, but the world’s most exclusive hobby: private submarine voyages.

The phenomenally profitable director of “Avatar” piloted an ungainly looking, bright green, one-seat sub to an amazing 36,000 feet, or 11,000 meters, down into the Mariana Trench.

Only the third person to go there, Cameron led the mission, which was entirely privately funded.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the globe, another mega-rich man with a sub, Richard Branson, is plotting to penetrate the Atlantic’s deepest point, the Puerto Rico Trench.

For a man who’s done extreme sailing and hot air ballooning, a jaunt miles under the ocean in a James Bond-style, winged mini-sub is the logical next step. He dreams of finding “Spanish galleons” or “a species that hasn’t been discovered.”

“It’s enormously exciting that the oceans can now be explored and we have the vehicles to do that,” Branson told AFP from his private Necker Island in the Caribbean.

Charles Kohnen, co-founder of submarine builders SEAmagine, said private sub owners are still a tiny group — perhaps less than a dozen individuals — but that the general trend of ever fancier toys for billionaires is likely to change that.

Most underwater craft on the civilian market are technically called submersibles, meaning they have only limited autonomy and need yachts to act as motherships.

True submarines are more closely related to the naval equivalents, although both types can make safe journeys to at least 500 feet (150 meters), and in most cases a great deal further.

When SEAmagine started 16 years ago, “yachts weren’t big enough to hold submarines. The evolution we’ve seen over the last five, seven years is interest from the private sector and it’s directly related to the yachts, the mega-yacht industry,” Kohnen said.

One recent private client has a specially designed 82 foot (25 meter) catamaran with a helicopter deck and submersible launch. Another didn’t need any particular design changes to hold his submersible, but that’s only because he has a 280 foot (85 meter) “luxury ship.”

“A submarine — it’s not just a jet ski,” Kohnen said.

His craft retail at between $1 million and $3 million. But the annual upkeep of $15,000-$20,000 is practically spare change to the super rich and a fraction of what it costs to fly an executive jet.

A company called US Submarines targets an even further frontier, offering luxury subs in addition to the more common submersibles.

Business is growing in the smaller craft sphere, especially “from the scientific community and very much more from the film community,” Marc Deppe, an executive with subsidiary Triton Submarines, told AFP.

What they’d like to find now, Deppe said, is the world’s first private owner of a full-blown submarine — a modern day Captain Nemo.

US Submarines offers the “Nomad,” described as having an interior equivalent to a personal jet plane, the “Seattle,” comparable in comfort to a large yacht, and the amazing “Phoenix.”

This vessel, a full 213 feet (65 meters) long, would be able to cross an ocean, diving whenever weather got rough, and has so much room it would carry its own mini-sub.

At $78 million, according to its website, the “Phoenix” exists only on paper, but could be built as soon as a buyer ordered. “It’s going to take someone who’s a little bit extravagant, who has a passion to be the first one to have that type vessel,” Deppe said.

Kohnen said subs are still too daunting a prospect for most wealthy people, but that those who take the plunge will find a magical world on the other side of their bubble windows.

“How little we know is astounding. There’s much to be discovered,” Kohnen said. “We take photos and bring it to universities and they scratch their heads and say ‘what is that?’ What you see out there doesn’t look real. It’s amazing.”

Michael Jackson’s home on sale for $23.9 million

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Michael Jackson’s home on sale for $23.9 million.

The plush Los Angeles mansion where Michael Jackson died is on sale for $23.9 million, and a major celebrity is interested in buying it.

The 7-bedroom, 13-bathroom property, described as the centrepiece of an “elegant and sophisticated French chateau estate,” includes its own movie theater, a gym and a pool.

“The estate… offers a glamorous theater for screenings in a grand style, a magnificent wine cellar and tasting room, elevator, a spacious spa with gym, and an elegant guesthouse,” as well as an “expansive pool and gardens.”

The house, built in 2002 in the Holmby Hills district west of Los Angeles, includes more than 17,000 square feet of living space with 12 working fireplaces, and is set in a “lush and mature landscape” of some 1.26 acres.

TMZ reported that the property went on sale on Monday, and said a “major celebrity” is set to visit it on Thursday.

Realtor Mauricio Umansky, head of The Agency in Beverly Hills, will only show the property to serious buyers who have pre-qualified, meaning they have the money to buy it.

The contents of the home, which Jackson rented, were sold at auction in December, although the bed and headboard were not included in items for sale, at the request of the Jackson family.

The World’s Best Sushi Chef – VIDEO

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents The World’s Best Sushi Chef – VIDEO.

A documentary that goes behind the counter and into the life of a man who’s been called the greatest sushi chef in the world is set to open in New York Friday.

Tucked away in an underground Tokyo subway station is an unremarkable-looking 10-seat eatery called Sukiyabashi Jiro which serves Michelin-starred sushi by 85-year-old Jiro Ono, the first chef in Japan to earn three Michelin stars.

In trailers for the film Jiro Dreams of Sushi, filmmaker David Gelb captures the deft, economic movements of Ono’s hands as he shapes and molds the rice for his sushi and lacquers the fish with gentle brushstrokes.

Sushi and sashimi are presented on black marbles slabs and diners eat in a hushed silence that speaks of their reverence for the ceremonial experience and the master sushi chef.

The film is not just an ode to sushi and the octogenarian’s unrelenting pursuit of perfection, but also explores the father-son relationship and succession as the eldest son Yoshikazu is slated to take over the legendary restaurant.

Lamborghini Aventador J Roadster

The luxury Lifestyle blog (the home of luxury Lifestyle) presents Lamborghini Aventador J Roadster.

The new Lamborghini Aventador J Roadster, recently revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, is not just a concept car but now a real one-off production vehicle.

The Aventador J doesn’t have a roof, not even the retractable kind. Nor does it have a windscreen, with Lamborghini apparently having concluded that its “force of nature on wheels” should be as exposed to the real nature as possible.

Lamborghini has used a new carbon-fibre fabric, dubbed carbonskin, soft enough for use on the seats and interior surfaces – in place of regular fabric and leathers.

Underneath the hood is the 6.5-liter, 700 hp engine found in the Aventador LP 700-4, which means that the only thing to stop your head snapping off as it races up to 300 km/h are the clever wind deflectors.
